Lisa, a proud Aboriginal woman from Broken Hill, has shown incredible determination and growth throughout her career—and today, we celebrate a major milestone in her journey.
I’ve had the privilege of working with Lisa in various roles, from employment agencies to my current position as Outreach Support at Robinson Community College. Over the years, I’ve watched Lisa rise from working in cleaning roles to stepping into the aged care and disability support sector, where her passion for helping others truly began to shine.
Lisa’s commitment to learning has been unwavering. She began her studies at Robinson Community College with First Aid, then completed a Certificate III in Individual Support. She’s currently studying both a Certificate III in Business at Robinson Community College and a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice at TAFE—an impressive combination that reflects her drive and vision for the future.
Two months ago, Lisa approached me for help applying for a Trainee Aboriginal Health Worker position with Maari Ma, a local Aboriginal Health Service. Together, we worked on her resume, cover letter, and application. Today, Lisa returned with exciting news: she got the job! She starts full-time on Tuesday 2nd of September 2025.
Lisa shared that she’s feeling both excited and nervous, but above all, she sees this opportunity as a positive turning point. Full-time employment will not only provide stability but also bring her closer to her long-term goal of studying for a Bachelor of Health Science.
Lisa’s natural empathy, life experience, and dedication to helping others make her the perfect fit for this new role. We are incredibly proud of her achievements and will continue to support her as she reaches for her dreams.
Congratulations, Lisa—you are an inspiration to us all!
